THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS: TWO WAYS - TWO ENDS |
Lesson 1 - The Way of the Righteous and the End of the Ungodly
1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. 4 The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Psalm 1:1-6 (NKJV)

Week 1 - INTRODUCTION "THE TRULY HAPPY MAN"
| 1) |
The happiness Hat
What goes in it? Rest assured that no matter what else goes in that hat, if there is something in there God does not what to be or something is absent that He wants to be in there, there will be no true happiness. |
| 2) |
Wherein lies the key to true happiness?
a. We live in a time where boredom, depression and other forms of unhappiness are rampant .
b. Is there some basic principle which determines success in finding happiness?
c. Satan daily bombards us with his false notion of happiness. If anyone had the opportunity to be happy it was Adam and Eve, yet Satan was able to convince them they needed more.
d. Our Declaration of Independence says the pursuit of happiness is an unalienable right endowed by our Creator. All around us we can see people pursuing this and pursuing that - all hoping happiness will result. What is happiness and how can we find it? |
| 3) |
The Book of Psalms with its very first psalm shares with us a key principle that can ensure true happiness...
Notice the very first word of the first psalm - "Blessed..."
- The word in Hebrew denotes the idea of "happiness"
- The actual force of the Hebrew could be translated "O how very happy is the man..." b. Therefore this psalm describes "The Truly Happy Man"
- In the six lessons that lie ahead we will learn of two ways one can pursue true happiness, but only one way, God’s way, will get us there. Read the Psalm and prepare for the Journey!
